John McKachan in “Scotch Irish Pioneers”

Both documentary and DNA evidence tell us that the Kathans were McKachans before they were Kathans (see the WikiTree entry for Captain John Kathan).

In talking about the early settlement of Worcester County, Massachusetts, this 1910 book by Charles Knowles Bolton, Scotch Irish Pioneers in Ulster and America, lists a John McKachan as one of “the chief Scotch Irish settlers” (p. 191). Also listed as such is Thomas Baird (p. 188) who, we can speculate, may have been a relative of John’s first wife, Martha Baird.

The book is available, in a variety of digital formats from the Internet Archive (archive.org).
